The Rabindra Bharati University was founded in 1962 to commemorate the 100th birthday of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore, the first Indian and Asian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Rabindra Bharati Distance Education is a state university dedicated to promoting Tagore’s ideas and thinking through the humanities, social sciences, art, and culture. As a result, the Rabindra Bharati Distance Education University stands out as a centre for higher study in the performing arts, fine arts, language, literature, and social sciences. The Emerald Bower Campus houses the three major faculties of Arts, Fine Arts, and Visual Arts, whereas the original campus, Jorasanko, now houses a museum and hosts a number of events such as Tagore’s birth and death anniversaries, as well as the annual University Convocation, to name a few.
