NEET UG Counselling is a centralised process directed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and respective state authorities. The purpose of this counselling is to facilitate the allocation of medical seats to students who have cleared the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) UG examination organised by NTA.

This counselling is critical for aspiring medical professionals, enabling them to secure admission into MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical programs. Students can take admission to various government and private medical institutions across India.

The NEET Counselling process is structured into several detailed steps, each crucial for a successful admission:

1. Registration: Candidates must begin by registering online on the official counselling website. This step requires submitting personal and academic details, including NEET roll number, application number, and other relevant information. Successful registration generates a unique user ID and password, which will be used for subsequent steps.
2. Choice Filling and Locking: After registration, candidates can proceed to the choice-filling stage to select their preferred colleges and courses. This involves carefully considering the college’s reputation, course content, location, and previous years’ cut-off ranks. Once satisfied with their selections, candidates must lock their choices before the specified deadline. Reviewing and confirming choices carefully is essential, as locked choices cannot be altered.
3. Seat Allotment: The seat allotment process is conducted in multiple rounds. The authorities allocate seats to candidates based on their NEET rank, preferences, and availability. The results of each round are published on the official counselling website. 
4. Reporting: Candidates allotted a seat must report to the designated college within the specified timeframe. This involves physically visiting the college to complete admission formalities, which include document verification, fee payment, and submission of the allotment letter. Report within the given period to avoid the unacceptance of the allotted seat.
5. Subsequent Rounds: If seats remain vacant after the initial rounds, further rounds of counselling are conducted. Candidates who have yet to be allotted seats or who wish to upgrade can participate in these subsequent rounds.

Eligibility Criteria for Participating in the Counselling

To participate in the Counselling, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:-

• Qualification in NEET UG: Candidates must have qualified for the NEET UG examination by securing the minimum required percentile. The qualifying percentile varies each year and is determined by the authorities based on various factors.
• Age Criteria: Candidates must meet the age criteria set by the authorities. Typically, the minimum age limit is 17 years, and the maximum is 25 years as of the admission year. Age relaxation is available for candidates with reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC).
• Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognised board and secured the minimum aggregate marks in these subjects as specified by the counselling authorities.
• Additional Criteria: Some states or institutions may have additional eligibility criteria, such as requirements or specific marks criteria. Candidates should check the counselling authority’s guidelines to meet all requirements.
